Chad Moutray
Chief Economist
National Association of Manufacturers

"Economic and Auto Industry Update"

Chad Moutray will discuss the current economic environment for manufacturers, including the top strengths and challenges. This discussion will focus on those sectors which have helped to contribute to the revival in manufacturing that we have seen in the U.S. since the recession, which has provided us with out-sized employment and output gains. At the same time, manufacturers’ optimism has waned recently, as business leaders have become more nervous about slowing sales and fiscal uncertainties. While the longer-term trend for the sector is a positive one – especially with increased global competitiveness – the short-term prospects have been clouded by the fiscal cliff debate, across-the-board federal budget cuts, and political frustrations.
