“History of the American Economy and Growth”

In Land of Promise: An Economic History of the United States, best-selling author Michael Lind tells the story of America’s remarkable growth from a collection of ex-British colonies into the world’s dominant economic and military power. Weaving together stories of inventors and entrepreneurs with the stories of ordinary American farmers, workers and immigrants, Lind shows how successive waves of technological innovation, based on steam power, motors and information technology, have repeatedly transformed first the economy and then the political order from the eighteenth century to the twenty-first and are about to do so again.

Michael Lind is an American writer. Currently Lind is Policy Director of the Economic Growth Program at the New America Foundation in Washington, D.C., Editor of New American Contract and its blog Value Added, and a columnist for Salon magazine.
