Chief Economist

“The U.S. Small Business Economy and the SBA”

The sales, earnings, capital expenditures and financing of many small firms have experienced a sharp decline as a result of the most recent recession.  In response to this fact, the SBA undertook several steps to address the credit contraction for small firms, in particular.  As a result of this action, the SBA is experiencing a rebound in the dollar value of its guarantees.  However, the data of many small firms indicate that a large number of them have not yet reentered the credit markets.  Mr. Gramigna will discuss this and other aspects of the current situation.
