Chief Economist

National Association of Manufacturers

"An Economic Update for the Manufacturing Sector"

Chad Moutray will discuss the current economic environment for manufacturers, including the top strengths and challenges. This discussion will focus on those sectors which have helped to contribute to the revival in manufacturing that we have seen in the U.S. since the recession, which has provided us with out-sized employment and output gains. The longer-term trend for the sector is a positive one, especially with increased global competitiveness. At the same time, manufacturers’ optimism has waned recently, as business leaders have become more nervous about slowing global sales, fiscal uncertainties, and political frustrations.
