Coen Teulings, Director of the Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis (CPB).
"Crisis and Recovery: Reflections on the Eurozone from a Netherlands Perspective"
Coen teulings will discuss recent developments in the Eurozone and prospects for recovery. He will focus on the need for policies to strengthen the growth potential in Europe, including challenges in fiscal policy. Coen Teulings is an influential economist in the Netherlands and Tinbergen Institute and has been a Professor at the University of Rotterdam and currently is a Professor at the University of Amsterdam.

Coen Teulings Director CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis Coen Teulings (1958) is director since 2006 of the CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis The CPB is a major economic think tank in the Netherlands and the independent advisor of the Dutch government and parliament. The quarterly macro economic forecast of the CPB plays a central role in the budgetary process and in wage-bargaining. In-depth analyses of specific issues are much cited in the policy debate on e.g. ageing, health-care, social security, the housing market and climate change. Every parliamentary election the CPB offers political parties the opportunity to evaluate their election platform. This evaluation of election platforms is also used in the bargaining process for a new coalition government. The CPB was founded directly after World War II by Jan Tinbergen, the first Nobel-laureate in economics. Teulings graduated in Economics at the University of Amsterdam in 1985 and he got his PhD in 1990. He was appointed Head of the department of income policy, Ministry of Social Affairs in 1995 and Professor Labour Economics at the University of Amsterdam. He was director of the Tinbergen Institute and Professor at the University of Rotterdam from 1998 until 2004. From 2004 till 2006 he was director of SEO Economic Research. Next to his main affiliation at CPB he is Professor of Economics at the University of Amsterdam. He is a Crown member of the Social Economic Council. In 2004 he was co-writer for the new principle programme of the PvdA. He was a member of the REA, an independent Council of Economic Advisors for the Parliament. He served on several committees; amongst others he was chairman of a committee that framed the new programme economics for secondary education. Member of the Board of the Muziekgebouw Over t IJ.
