Len Nichols (George Mason University)

Senior Advisor for health policy at OMB under President Clinton

James C. Capretta (Ethics and Public Policy Center)

Associate Director at OMB under President Bush.

Moderator:  Robert Graboyes, National Federation of Independent Business

“Both Sides Now: Bipartisan Healthcare Wrap-up”

Two veteran White House health care policy advisors – one a Democrat and the other a Republican – will discuss where healthcare reform stands at year-end. 2012 will be a pivotal year for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act – the landmark healthcare law enacted in 2010. It will be a busy year for implementation at both the federal and state levels, and the U.S. Supreme Court will consider challenges to the law.

Len Nichols is Professor of Health Policy and Director of the Center for Health Policy Research and Ethics at George Mason University. In addition to OMB, Len was previously at the New America Foundation, the Center for Studying Health System Change, the Urban Institute, and Wellesley College. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.

Jim Capretta is a Fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center (EPPC). Before his most recent stint at OMB, Jim served for a decade in Congress as a senior analyst for health care issues and for three years as a budget examiner at OMB. He received his MA in Public Policy Studies from Duke University.
