About the 2015 NEC Partnership with the Kakehashi Program
The Kakehashi Program is a premier exchange program between Japan and the United States sponsored by the Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE). In 2015, the Embassy of Japan partnered with the NEC to select 10 highly qualified members under the age of 35 to participate in a 7-day study tour of Japan. Selectees included academic, government, and private sector economists with a variety of research interests and backgrounds from across the United States.  (The participants of this trip were provided all travel related expenses.)

At this event, participants from the 2015 Kakehashi Program will present their findings and perspectives from their visit to Japan based on meetings with prominent Japanese leaders from organizations such as the Canon Institute for Global Studies, Waseda University, Bank of Japan, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Keidanren, Yamanashi University and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA). Topics of discussion included energy policy, security policy, agricultural policy, monetary policy, fiscal policy, the changes to the VAT tax, the declining and aging population, labor market reforms, female labor force participation, immigration, environmental policy, and security challenges.

The discussion lead by Kakehashi Scholars Elliott Nethercutt and Jessie Yu will focus on the Japanese energy and agricultural sectors as well as their general impressions of the Japanese economy and culture they experienced on their study tour.

Note:  Registration is open through Thursday, 6-9-16 by 11:00 a.m. due to security restrictions.
