"Will Scotland Leave the United Kingdom? Politics, Economics, Emotions, and the Scottish Independence Referendum"

Will Scots vote on September 18th to exit the United Kingdom and become an independent nation? Will Great Britain become Little Britain? Are three hundred years of common, collective, and dynamic history at an end? As the campaign enters its final week, Dr. Mackintosh will set out the political, economic, and emotional factors behind the most important decision that any voter in Scotland will make in their lifetime.

Stuart P. M. Mackintosh is the Executive Director of the Group of Thirty. He oversees all aspects of the Group of Thirty's annual work program of studies, project development, event planning and annual fundraising.  Previously Dr. Mackintosh was a Washington-based economist and country risk manager for Mitsubishi International Corporation. Before locating to the U.S., Dr. Mackintosh was Chief of Staff and principal speechwriter for leading politicians in the European Parliament.  Dr. Mackintosh is a director of the NABE Foundation. He serves on the advisory boards of the Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum, and the World Affairs Council. He previously sat on the board of the National Association for Business Economics, and is a past Chairman and President of the National Economists Club of Washington DC. He also serves on the board of Children of Vietnam, a charity based in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
Dr. Mackintosh has a B.A. and PhD. Newcastle University and a M.Sc. from the University of Edinburgh. Routledge will publish The Redesign of the Global Financial Architecture: the Return of State Authority, by Dr. Mackintosh in 2015. When he is out of the office he can be most often found on his bicycle.
